What are Lash Extensions?

What are Lash Extensions?

Lash Extensions are a semi-permanent, synthetic, faux mink or silk fibers that are applied one strand at a time with specially formulated non-irritating glue to your natural lashes. The end result is an enhancement of your eye shape. Unlike false eyelashes, lash extensions attach to the natural eyelash and grow out naturally. They can be customized to create specific depths and elongation to your specific eye shape to get the exact look you’re going for.

How long do they last?

With proper care extensions can last up to 6 weeks before they shed. The shedding cycle will happen in tandem with your natural hair-growth cycle, which generally turns over around every 6 to 8 weeks. To maintain the full-lashed effect in the long term, refills are a great way to extend the life of your lashes and are recommended every 2 to 3 weeks.

What to avoid with lash extensions

Rubbing your lashes will result in immediate breakage, so try to avoid doing that. Another thing that’s very important is to avoid oil-based products on your lashes, including spray tans. Ignoring this will result in a significant reduction in how long they will last. While it isn’t recommended to wear mascara with lash extensions, it isn’t actually detrimental to them. However, should you choose to wear mascara with lash extensions, do not choose a waterproof mascara. Additionally, if you’re using a make-up remover on them, be sure to avoid oil-based make-up removers. Another thing to avoid are mechanical eyelash curlers on your lash extensions; it will break them. Lastly, if you have a cotton pillowcase, switch to a silk or satin as cotton can cause snagging.

What should I do prior to getting lash extensions?

The stronger your lashes are before getting extensions, the better. Using a lash-conditioning serum beforehand and in between appointments can greatly improve the outcome of lash extensions. One other thing, it’s required that your eye area be clean and completely free of makeup when arriving to your lash extension appointment. You can wear moisturizer and foundation, but no under eye concealer, mascara, etc. Your lash artist will require you to remove any makeup around your eye area before starting your appointment. Come prepared with a clean face so your artist has the most time possible to spend on your lashes.
